3D printing in Qatar: what can be made, and how
What 3D printing is good for, from one personal piece to large models and mascots, and how a print becomes a finished object in a Doha studio.

3D printing builds an object one thin layer at a time from a digital model. Because nothing has to be cut from a block or poured into a mould, it is at its best when you need something that does not exist yet, in a small number, and soon. That describes most of what people bring to our studio in Doha.
What people ask us to print
- Personalised pieces, one or many: a figure, a gift, a model of something that matters to someone
- Large-format models and sculptures for lobbies, showrooms and events
- Brand and company mascots
- Corporate gifts and awards, made to the company's own design
- Pieces made for events and activations
- Prototypes and concept models, before anything goes into production
- Parts and products a company needs for its own use
When printing is the right choice
Printing makes most sense when the quantity is small, the shape is particular or the deadline is close. There is no mould to pay for, so the first piece costs about the same as the tenth, and a change to the design is a change to a file rather than to a tool.
It is less suited to thousands of identical, simple parts, where moulding eventually becomes cheaper per piece. For those, a printed prototype is still the fastest way to check the design before committing to production.
From a file to a finished object

A print leaves the printer with its layers visible. For many pieces that is only half the work: in our finishing hall they are filled, sanded, primed and painted by hand, until what you hold looks like what was drawn rather than what was printed.
What it costs, and how long
Both depend on the piece: its size, its material, its detail and its finish. Our notes on 3D printing cost and on how long 3D printing takes explain what decides each, and every quote states both before anything is made.
Getting started
Send a 3D file if you have one; if not, a photo, a sketch with rough sizes or a description is enough. Nothing is printed until the design is agreed. What to send us for a quote goes through it in more detail, and our 3D printing and custom manufacturing page shows the work.
